What's the best open top car for comfort and cruising?

Can you suggest something frivolous for an old geezer to use for pottering around the Sussex lanes when the sun's out?

I fancied a W107 Benz but you say it's "too soft a drive to appeal to enthusiasts and too ugly to appeal to the image-conscious".

I thought I wanted comfort (so no Mazda sports cars) but I also rather fancy the idea of tinkering with a Morris Minor. Would a rebuilt Minor convertible from the Bath Minor centre stand up to short trips or would I be better with a Benz?

Completely different kinds of cars, ut you can tinker with a Morris Minor and you can't with an SL.
