Is it OK to use a smaller space saver wheel than my other wheels?

I have a SEAT Leon automatic. It has no spare wheel. I have been told by SEAT that the tyre repair kit, which now needs renewing is no longer available. I have been offered and purchased a spare wheel for the car from SEAT. When my wife collected it they gave her a size R16. The remaining wheels are R17. They say R17 tyres are not available and this is OK on a get you home basis. This seems a poor outcome to my problem. Can you please tell me if it safe to drive the car with different size tyres or should I try to get the right size from elsewhere?

It's normal for the space saver to be slightly smaller than the car's full-sized wheel and it is only meant to be a temporary solution with reduced speed (usually 50mph) required while it is used.
