Are DSG gearboxes reliable?

Are Volkswagen Group automatic gearboxes reliable?

The number of DSG complaints we receive has fallen in recent years.

Most of the transmission issues (we heard about) were in relation to the old dry clutch DSG that had no official maintenance schedule. The latest six-speed wet clutch DSG appears to be reliable, as long as the fluid is replaced every three years. It's a similar story for the longitudinal seven-speed s-tronic used by Audi.
