Should I buy a group 1 insurance car to get a No Claims Discount?

I've had a 31-year-old car on classic car insurance for about 6 years. I've lost my NCD as it's over 2 years since it was valid and I'm 69 soon. Should I buy a group 1 car and try to get some No Claims at least started before I'm 70. My wife has NCD on her car and I'm a named driver. Does my age make any difference? At renewal, the classic car insurance will issue a letter saying how many claim free years I've got. My classic BMW won't last much longer and would appreciate your advice. Thanks.

Insurance premiums are a dark art – they take almost every variable into consideration and your age is definitely something they will factor in. Before you do anything, I would have a look at a car insurance comparison site, I use www.moneysupermarket.com/car-insurance/ but others are available. You can put the reg of a car onto the site along with your details and find out how much it'll cost to insure, chances are you'll get more car for your money than you realise.

If not, our sister site heycar has a list of the best group 1 insurance cars, here: heycar.co.uk/guides/which-cars-have-group-1-insura...e

They're all quite small and also not very powerful, but if you can live with that, they're all decent cars in their own right.
