Cas withdrawel

I have received a Notice of Intended Prosecution telling me that I was travelling at 36mph contrary to ...etc., etc. I can't dispute that. I saw the static camera flash. What I can't get over is that this was at 4.30am in good visibility on a straight stretch of dual carriageway (I was on the road, which I am not familiar with, out of Leeds to go to Leeds/Bradford airport) and, perhaps not surprisingly at that time of the morning, there was no sign of any other vehicle or pedestrian. The Notice was issued by the Casualty Reduction Bureau of the West Yorkshire Police and I would ask just how many casualties am I, or anyone else for that matter, likely to cause in like circumstances at that time of a morning. What hurts more that the fine which will be imposed, is the fact that I will now, after 48 years of driving with a clear licence, have an endorsement and points to show for my failure to be aware, regardless of the time of day, that I was within a 30mph limit.

Sorry to hear it. But they don’t switch them off at times when it is safe to exceed the limits. In their view you are still breaking the law, however daft that law may be. This sort of thing is precisely why so many older pillars of society are getting increasingly fed up of our current authoritarian regime that seems to regard all motorists as somehow evil. That just happens to be 30,000,000 people of voting age, comprising most of the electorate. The number of them with points on their licences now stands at around 12,000,000.
