My van was damaged in a car park because the maximum height signs were wrong - where do I stand?

I parked my Volkswagen Transporter (195.5cm height) in a NCP car park last week stating max height 197cm. My van got stuck in the actual barrier stating 197cm but on measuring the barrier was actually 195.4cm after my van had been through it, assuming 195cm before I passed. Either way the MAX HEIGHT barrier is 16 to 20mm smaller than stated. How do I stand? My insurers legal department are saying they have no knowledge of this situation and only deal with car accidents. I assumed this was a type of accident.

You should have a legitimate claim against NCP, they have been negligent in incorrectly signing the barrier. Take lots of photographs with proof of the measurements of the offending barrier and then contact NCP and advise you will be issuing proceedings against them for the cost of repair to your vehicle.
