What ramps do you recommend for loading a disability scooter into a Hyundai xi20?
The Hyundai ix20 is quite a compact car to fit a mobility scooter into, though this depends on how much your scooter packs down. You will also need to make sure the height-adjustable boot floor of the ix20 is in its higher position to avoid a drop to the boot floor and lower the rear seats to gain enough space for the scooter. A lightweight and compact ramp is the best solution and there are many available. A set of folding fibreglass ramps from Essential Aids will be lighter than most aluminium ramps to lift in and out of the car and they have channels to guide the wheels. Each of these ramps weights 6kg. Another option is a telescopic ramp like the Ultralight Telescopic ramp available from many suppliers. It comes in lengths up to 3.0-metres and each side weighs 3.6kg. One further option is to choose a scooter hoist for the boot of your car. This makes loading very easy and you don't need as much space behind the car when operating the hoist as you do with ramps. The cost of the hoist will depend on which make and model you choose and how heavy your scooter is.
