Should I change the fuel filter on my Volkswagen Lupo GTI?

I recently bought a 16 year old Volkswagen Lupo GTI with a full service history. There's no record of a change of fuel filter - not even in the Volkswagen service schedule book. The car is running fine but would it be wise - or a waste of money - to get it changed at its forthcoming service?

It depends how many miles the car has done. The 60k service, for example, would include the fuel filter (as well as an oil and oil filter change, air filter, plugs, brake fluid etc). Of more concern would be the cambelt, which is due every 40k or 4 years.
