Nissan Cube (2010 – 2011) Review

Nissan Cube (2010 – 2011) At A Glance

4/5

+Decent to drive with quiet yet torquey 1.6 chain cam engine, sensible gearing, light controls and excellent ride quality.

-Quirky, oddball looks you either like or don't like. Not as practical as it looks due to high rear door sill for structural strength.

Insurance Group 15
On average it achieves 86% of the official MPG figure

You might take one look at the Nissan Cube and decide it's an oddball of strictly limited appeal. And you'd be wrong. Because, since its first incarnation in 1998, Nissan has sold a million of them.

Will Nissan sell the Cube in the UK again?

"Does anyone know if Nissan will be making the Cube for the UK market again? I used to have a Suzuki Wagon, then a Renault Kangoo. I need a car which is not too big but has a high driving position (due to spinal problems). I do love the square looking cars mainly because I find them easier to park! They seem out of favour at the moment which is a shame."
As far as we are aware there are no plans to sell the Nissan Cube in the UK again, although if you were keen to have one you could look at an imported model, or look at cars with an upright body and high driving position that are easy to park, such as the Toyota Aygo X and Yaris Cross, Hyundai ix20, Citroen C3 Aircross and Suzuki Ignis.

I'm after a small but interesting car - what do you suggest?

"After years of having to drive the family workhorse, I can at last by a smaller car. I would like something reasonably practical but above all interesting. It doesn’t have to be fast and I don’t mind very second hand. I have a budget of £10,000."
A Nissan Cube is very interesting, covers all your requirements and is well under budget. Alternatively, how about a Suzuki Swift Sport? They're great to drive, fairly rare and you'll get a late example of the last-generation model with your budget.

Family automatic with plenty of luggage space - what would you recommend?

"My daughter is expecting a second baby and needs a used automatic with plenty of space for her commute to school. Her average mileage is 8000 and a petrol engine would be preferable. What do you recommend? "
A 2010 Nissan Cube CVT would be fun. They're rare, but cheap (only one shipload was imported). A Honda Jazz CVT makes sense. Maybe a Renault Modus or Grand Modus 1.6 auto. Newer, a KIA Venga 1.6 auto or a Hyundai ix20 1.6 auto.

Which cool MPV for a new mother?

"What's the coolest mini MPV for a new mother, in your opinion?"
As well as Mini MPVs, you could consider a Nissan Juke, because they're a bit higher so mean less bending. Some people like the KIA Soul. Then there's the Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008. Mini MPVs as a category don't really qualify for the 'cool wall'. Used, a Nissan Cube might. New, maybe a FIAT 500L, though Jeremy Clarkson might disagree.
