Honda Jazz 1.3 i-VTEC
Official average: 54.9mpg
The Jazz is one of those cars we find ourselves recommending to readers (and indeed friends and family) a lot. Why? Well it's refined, comfortable and versatile, plus it can carry four adults in comfort and double up as a small van thanks to its ingenious 'magic seats', which fold and flip. If you want a small, practical and quality car, this is it. And averaging close to 52mpg it's also genuinely economical.

I agree that the Mazda 2 is indeed known for its impressive handling capabilities among small cars. The 1.5-liter petrol engine with 115PS offers a good balance between performance and fuel efficiency. However, it's worth noting that this more powerful version is also the most expensive option within the lineup. If budget is a concern, the lower powered versions of the Mazda 2 still offer good fuel efficiency and represent a better value proposition in our professional opinion.|
