Absolutely appalling fuel economy

Had the car from new and have only done approx 16,000 miles after 2 years 3 months. I don't know where people get their mpg figures from but urban I am only getting 33-35 mpg and on long journeys of up to 150 miles of constant motorway I am getting 51mpg. That is with only myself in the car, tyres inflated to 40psi and no luggage or items in the boot or car!
My car has been serviced by Mazda and I always monitor the current mpg and change up and down the gearbox when prompted. The car is too heavy, almost 100kg heavier than a 5dr Golf I think. Mazda needs to put the 3 on a diet and reduce the size of the engine. There is a power lag when accelerating given that it is not turbo charged. I also don't like the fact that the tyre pressure monitor does not tell you which individual tyre is affected, and the warning system that tells you when a door has not been properly shut; i.e. it does not tell you which specific door is open. My 2005 Citroen which the Mazda 3 replaced told me all this.
I am getting rid of this car and moving to a Ford with Ecoboost petrol engine or a hybrid of some sort!
