Good Cars - Customer Service not so good.

We've had two Mazda 3's. The first a 2.0 DPF diesel - although we had no problems, the well published tales of DPF woe (sumps filling with oil, diesel runaway, failed DPF, owners being told that they're not driving their car properly - what?!!) were enough to make us trade it in pretty quickly. Shame, because it drove really well with par for the course diesel economy.

We then bought our second Mazda - the 3 MPS from a dealer under the approved vehicle scheme. The car is great - everything I wanted to help soothe my mid life crisis without looking like I own a Halfords charge card. The economy isn't great, but then you have to expect that with a car that has 256 Bhp. But in context 25-35 (on a run) is about the same as the TT we had a few years ago.

If buying from a Mazda dealer DO carefully check out the approved used warranty - if you need to make a claim it's down to you to pay for any diagnostic costs before Mazda decide if they're going to pay. And if you call Customer Services, be prepared to be shouted at by handlers that are obviously well versed in claim avoidance. Two of their own dealers warned me (after buying the car!) how bad Mazda UK are at honouring warranty claims.

So in a nutshell, if I were to buy another I'd get one privately and buy a warranty or take the risk and the saved money without. The cars are really good; the overall service is not - which is why I'll be going back to VAG next time. And the same goes for my company car when I replace it. You see Mazda? Poor customer service WILL cost you!
