Incredibly quick, smooth and quiet, quicker (0-50) than the 5.0 V8 version due to the enormous low down torque. It handles and feels like a much smaller sports car. Fantastic spec on the Portfolio model, but all models rather let down by a central touch screen that is slow to respond, as well as not being very touch sensitive. 1200w B&W sound system is superb, as is the attention to detail on the fantastic interior. Seen as a "marmite" car by some, largely due to the design of the rear, but I strongly suggest viewing one in the metal as photos do not do it justice at all. Overall fuel economy is good, but not as high as Jaguar suggest, particularly in town. My car has been faultless, but some owners have reported rattling/squeaking panoramic roof panels, rattles around the dashboard area, discoloured/rusting callipers and hubs, and electrical/software glitches that can generate error messages in the LCD display. The condensation problem in the rear lights and rattling/squeaking roof panels have now been addressed with fixes, and any problems encountered are dealt with quickly and efficiently by Jaguar. Low vehicle tax for the diesel model (£215 pa), but higher than average insurance due to the cost of repairing aluminium panels. The XJ has a good sized boot, but as Honest John has said, if you are above average height, the rear legroom in the SWB is somewhat tight for such a large car. You cannot use the vehicle to tow due to it's aluminium construction, which may be a deal breaker for some. IMHO, this is the most beautiful luxury saloon in it's sector, and it gets admiring glances and double takes wherever it goes. I would definitely recommend the car as it has so much more road presence and soul than it's German rivals. Don't let minor niggles put you off, the majority of owners have no problems whatsoever. Best car I have ever owned.
