Overall reliability

A 21st Century Austin Maestro but more reliable

I was interested in buying a Vauxhall Corsa to replace my elderly fiesta. Unfortunately Corsa's sell very quickly and due to time constraints I was forced to buy a Ford Fusion from my local second hand car dealership. The cars interior is very spacious and has two interior lights. I liked the adjustable height on the drivers seat as I don't need to lower myself in anymore. On the road it has a very robust and heavy feel and performs strongly and I often find third gear is enough for driving along A and B roads in the traffic. The car does not like being thrown around corners and is more at home on a dual carriageway or motorway at a constant speed, This is due to the car having a rear axle beam .The controls are poorly positioned as the buttons for the air conditioner and the air recirculation are mounted at the bottom of the facia in front of the gear stick which makes it very difficult to operate in a hurry particularly if I am behind a knackered diesel engine car. Another thing is the tail gate is poorly designed as it only has a ridge for a outside handle and if I use the key I have to bend down to open it as it is fitted on the right hand side. Overall it is a good strong car but has a plain Jane appearance and appeals more to older people rather than a family as the interior space makes it perfect to get in and out and travel in comfort.
