You can save 10p-per-litre on fuel this weekend- but there's a catch

Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's have cut the price of petrol and diesel at their forecourts - with Morrisons offering 10p-per-litre off when you spend £60 or more in store.

Asda has reduced fuel prices by 2p per litre across its 322 UK petrol stations, meaning drivers filling up at an Asda petrol station will pay no more than 120ppl on unleaded and 123.7ppl on diesel from today.

Tesco has cut the cost of petrol and diesel by up to 2ppl at all of its 500 petrol filling stations, while Sainsbury’s is cutting the price of diesel and unleaded petrol by up to 2p per litre across all of its 315 forecourts from Sunday 24 November. Morrisons is dropping the cost of unleaded and diesel by up to 2ppl at all of its 334 petrol stations.

However, Morrisons have also upped the ante by offering an extra 10p a litre off for those who spend £60 or more on groceries in store. The combination of the 2p price cut and in-store customer deal can see drivers of a typical family car - like a Ford Focus - save around £5 when they fill up.

While the trimming of 2p off every litre will be introduced from tomorrow, the deal for those who spend £60 in Morrisons stores was launched earlier in the week and terminates on 1 December. Customers will receive a voucher that will allow them to pay 10ppl less for fuel at one of the supermarket's forecourts. Although, vouchers will expire on 8 December 2019.

My wife and I usually shop at Morrisons. Today we spent over £60 and got the petrol voucher. Happy days.
For the same shop, having spent over £40, we also got 4000 extra Morrisons More points worth £4.

As an occasional Sainsbury's customer with a Nectar card, I get vouchers through the post from them as incentives to shop there, rather like Tesco used to do before just giving me the clubcard points vouchers (which are now worth 1/3 less than they used to be and you don't get so many points when shopping, especially in the petrol stations).

The difference with the Sainsbury's vouchers is that you only have to spend £20 to get 6p off a litre of fuel (other vouchers are for £3 or £4 off your shop, essentially similar money off if you consider the average C-sector car has roughly a 50L fuel tank) and they are good for a whole week.

Far better for single people who would find spending £60 on groceries in one go almost impossible or a complete waste of money just to get £5 off your next petrol bill, which may not be for a couple of weeks and thus outside the timeframe allowed to spend the money-off voucher.

At least with the Sainsbury's ones they give me four vouchers covering a 4 week period - two for fuel, two for in-store shopping. Despite the food being a bit more expensive in Sainsbury's, if I avoid buying certain items that are expensive (I get them in my local Morrisons or Tesco instead), I can still save a decent amount overall and not have to overspend by £30 - £40 just to get £5 off my fuel bill.

With Morrisons, neither my local supermarket or the next nearest has a fuel station, so I never get any benefit when they give away such money off fuel vouchers. The only time I do is on holiday when the Morrisons I do go to do have petrol stations.

IF ONLY you had told the actual truth. The reverse of Sainsburys vouchers state "Qualifying spend EXCLUDES...FUEL..." NEXT...

No they don't. 6p off a litre of fuel when you spend £20 in store. I'm reading off my voucher for this week. I grant you that the qualifying amount excludes buying fuel, but then I never made that claim. The same goes for ANY other supermarket - they expect you to send a lot in store to qualify for a fuel discount.

As I said, it's often better to use the spend £20 (in store), get £4 off your shopping bill, as 6p a litre off fuel for the same spend means most people won't be able to get more than £3 off fuel, because their car's fuel tank is around the 50-55L mark, meaning most people won't be buying 50L of fuel that attracts a £3 discount.

I have no idea why you are seemingly going after me without cause - perhaps you are deleted former member mmmmm coming back in under a false identity to troll only outside of the Backroom forum, because you think you can 'get away with it'. Not for long.

We don't have any supermarket petrol stations near where I live. Only one fuel station in our town and the diesel currently is 135.9p/litre. It's been over 140p/l for most of this year. I' ll be glad when/if I can afford an EV that fulfils my needs.
