Lego. In many, the very word conjures up images of hours spent looking for a missing piece, or of stepping on a sharp, lumpy brick and yelling in agony. It's a toy that's been around, more or less unchanged, since 1949.

The latest - and almost certainly greatest - kit in the Technics range is the Mercedes-Benz Unimog. It might well say on the packaging that it's for 11-16-year-olds but any fan of engineering will appreciate it, no matter what age they are - it's astonishing.

Everything from the differentials in the four-wheel drive system to the pneumatic arms on the crane work, and there are more than 2000 individual components. It took somewhere in the region of eight hours to build, but it's been compressed into two minutes in the video above.

So if you've got a child (adult or otherwise) that loves Lego and you're stuck for a Christmas gift, then there's no substitute for the largest, most complex and most rewarding LEGO Technics kit ever made. Click here to visit the Lego website
