Citroen C5 Aircross priced from £23,225
Citroen has announced prices for its new C5 Aircross SUV ahead of orders opening in December and deliveries starting in February.
With prices starting at £23,255, Citroen's new SUV is more expensive than the Skoda Karoq and Nissan Qashqai - two cars it's set to take on in the tough family crossover sector.
It's bigger than its rivals, though - meaning Citroen's claiming a best-in-class boot space ranging from 580 litres to 720 litres, while dropping the rear seats increases that to 1630 litres. That could give it the edge if you're a family with a lot of stuff to carry.
The engine line-up is made up of two petrols and two diesels, both in 130PS and 180PS flavours. There's also a choice of six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic gearboxes, while a plug-in hybrid model is expected to arrive early in 2020.
A key feature of the C5 Aircross, which replaces the old Citroen C5, is its innovative suspension. Citroen claims it provides a 'magic carpet ride' thanks to its progressive hydraulic cushions, also used on the C4 Cactus.
The C5 Aircross's £23,225 start price is for the entry-level Feel model, combined with a PureTech 130 petrol engine and a six-speed manual gearbox.
Standard kit on the Feel includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in place of conventional dials, as well an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also offers Citroen's clever ConnectedCam in-built dashcam as standard and wireless phone charging.
A Feel model combined with the BlueHDi 130 diesel engine and manual gearbox starts at £24,725, while the same engine with the automatic gearbox costs £26,325.
The mid-spec Flair starts at £25,325 and includes front parking sensors, a reversing camera, navigation and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The top-spec Flair is priced from £27,725 and comes with an opening panoramic roof, 19-inch alloys, an electric rear tailgate and auto-dipping headlights. This tops out at £32,725 when combined with the BlueHDi 180 diesel engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox.
As well as the suspension, Citroen's latest SUV has a lot in common with the smaller C4 Cactus, such as its wide range of 30 colour combinations made up of seven body colours, a choice of roof colours and three colour packs. Buyers can also select from three interior colour schemes.
The official UK on-sale date for new Citroen C5 Aircross is Monday 4 February, with order books opening across the Citroen dealer network on Monday 3 December.
