Navigation to become standard on all Audi A4 models

Published 27 June 2018

Navigation will be fitted as standard to all Audi A4 saloon and Avant models from December 2018, as part of a midlife update for the range. Pricing is expected to remain unchanged, however, with the A4 starting at £27,000 for the 1.4 TFSI petrol.

The navigation upgrade represents a saving of £550 for Audi A4 SE buyers, with the touchscreen system previously only available as a payable option. Entry-level SE models get a sportier look, with side skirting and streamlined bumpers at the front and back.

Avant estate models get a few exterior extras, with a roof edge spoiler, trapezoidal tailpipes and a rear diffuser. As before, 17-inch wheels will be standard fit, while high trim models will get 18 or 19-inch alloys and the option of sports suspension.

Inside a seven-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system is fitted across the range, along with auto-folding door mirrors and a new multi-function steering wheel with new button layouts that should make it easier to use the navigation or audio functions without taking an eye of the road.

Sport models add new seats with four-way lumbar adjustment for those sitting in the front, along with 18-inch wheels and a new honeycomb grille. The engine line-up remains unchanged, however, with the 150PS 1.4 and 190PS 2.0 TFSI units making up the mainstay petrol range. Performance seekers can also choose the 353PS 3.0 V6 TFSI.

Diesel buyers can choose form the 150PS or 190PS 2.0 TDI, with the latter getting the option of quattro four-wheel drive. Range topping diesels get 218PS or 272PS via the familiar 3.0 V6 TDI that’s linked to all-wheel drive as standard.

I am sure that when I got an Avensis in 1998 it came with a basic (turn by turn system) satnav as standard across the range.

Well done Audi for keeping up!

All well and good, but what happens when it the satnav needs updating??

I have a friend with an A4; when he asked to get his satnav maps updated, his dealership quoted him £800 !!!

Cue one trip to H******** to buy a £60 Tom Tom.
