Mitsubishi Shogun Sport to start from £36,905 [VIDEO]

Mitsubishi is expanding its SUV range with the launch of the Shogun Sport. The seven-seater will be based on the L200 pick-up and feature four-wheel drive as standard. Prices will start from £36,905 when it goes on sale in the spring.

Mitsubishi describes the Shogun Sport as an SUV 'built for the most extreme family adventures'. It'll sit between the Outlander and Shogun in the range and feature four-wheel drive as standard, along with dedicated off-road driving modes that will allow it to tackle everything from icy roads to muddy fields.

Like the L200 pick-up, power comes from a 2.4-litre diesel. All versions get Mitsubishi's Super Select all-wheel drive system as standard, which will allow the driver to switch between two-wheel and four-wheel drive while on the move. There's no manual gearbox though, with the Shogun Sport using an all-new, eight-speed automatic transmission.

The four-cylinder diesel engine gets more power than the pick-up truck, with 180PS and 430Nm of torque. This means advertised economy will be a considerable 31.4mpg and 222g/km of CO2, while the max legal braked towing capacity will be 3100kg.

Providing space for seven people, the entry-level '3' trim includes leather upholstery, electrically-adjustable front seats, LED headlamps and parking sensors. The higher spec ‘4’ model - which adds £2000 to the list price - gets heated front seats, adaptive cruise control and a 510W audio system.

Mitsubishi hasn’t release any figures for boot space, but has confirmed that all versions will provide 1488 litres of storage when the rear seats are folded. As with the rest of the range, the Shogun Sport will have a five-year/62,500 mile warranty when it goes on sale in March 2018.
