Kia Sorento gets new eight-speed auto gearbox for 2018

Kia has updated its seven-seat SUV for 2018, with sporty trim lines and a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Sorento GT-Line is on sale now from £36,495.

The all-wheel drive Kia Sorento SUV retains its 200PS 2.2-litre turbodiesel, but gets a new eight-speed automatic gearbox to replace the previous six-speed unit.

Kia claims that the new 'box will lower running costs, with advertised fuel economy rising to 43.5mpg compared to the 42.2mpg with the previous automatic. CO2 emissions will also be cut slightly from 174g/km to 170g/km.

The new gearbox will be fitted as standard to the GT-Line and GT-Line S trim lines; the range-topping model lines - priced from £36,495 and £41,995 respectively - give the SUV a sporty appearance with red brake calipers, twin exhaust pipes, stainless steel side steps and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Sorento GT-Line models also get leather seats and a leather gear shifter, while 'S' versions add LED headlights to the spec list.

The eight-speed automatic gearbox will be fitted as standard to all GT-Line models and be optional on KX-2 and KX-3 versions. As before, the Sorento will continue to be available with a six-speed manual gearbox in KX-1, KX-2 and KX-3 trim, with official economy peaking at 49.6mpg and 149g/km, depending on wheel and tyre size.
