Top 10 things you need to know about the new Honda Civic
Honda has unveiled the new Honda Civic. The British-built family hatch gets a complete overhaul, with an aggressive look that Honda hopes will attract younger buyers. Powered by a new range of engines, the Civic should be cheaper to run that the outgoing car and safer, thanks to a new array of active safety kit.
Pricing is still to be confirmed, but expect the 2017 Honda Civic to start from under £18,000 when it reaches showrooms in March.
Improved ride quality
The new Civic has been developed for UK roads, which means it should provide a comfortable ride. At the front, it uses the same front suspension as before, but the rear gets all-new multi-link suspension, which Honda tell us will provide a better balance between comfort and handling.
The pre-production car pictured was fitted with 17-inch alloys, but expect 16-inch wheels to be fitted as standard. Honda will also offer computer controlled adaptive damping, which will automatically adjust the shock absorbers' stiffness to match the road conditions.

It will also be possible to have text messages relayed via the digital instrument screen.Bad enough with current mobile phone usage, so they provide a below dashboard screen for text messages, madness.

I cannot understand this need to see so much through the back window. There are excellent mirrors for when you are driving the current and previous Civics. In addition the view, even with their spoilers, is pretty darned good. They have the added bonus of hiding the headlights from the car behind.
The current Civics also have a reversing camera or proximity bleeps. As I undertstand it, reversing cameras will be standard on the next Civic.
I was following a bus today which had no rear window. To get his bus licence the driver had to reverse the bus around a corner and do a 3-point turn without a rear view window. It is the same for the articulated lorry drivers who have 40 feet of trailer behind them yet reverse them into places hardly wider than their trucks.

Not having a spare wheel is not a reason to reject this car. They are available on-line, official Honda spares and for less than £100. Which is far lower than if you specified one with your car.
Fitting is really easy as the hole will already be in the boot floor, just under the carpet. Find it, pull out the plastic stopper, screw in the bolt and plonk the wheel and retainer on top. There will probably be an elastic cargo net in the pack as well. It's easier than refilling the washer bottle.
