Alfa Romeo Giulia priced from £29,180

Alfa Romeo has announced prices for the Giulia saloon, which costs from £29,180. That’s a significant £4000 more than the basic BMW 3 series and £1500 more than the basic Mercedes-Benz C-Class, although the standard petrol engine in the Giulia is more powerful than both, with 200PS.

In total there are five trim levels – base, Super, Tecnica, Speciale and Quadrifoglio. The base model comes with a 200PS petrol engine only, plus it has 16-inch alloy wheels, a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen, cruise control, DAB, dual-zone climate, auto lights and auto wipers.

Also among the standard gear is forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning, active safety systems that contribute to the Giulia’s five-start Euro NCAP safety rating.

Super trim costs from £30,880 and is available with the 200PS petrol, along with a 2.2-litre JTDM-2 diesel producing either 150PS or 180PS. It gains 17-inch alloys, an 8.8-inch screen with navigation and a 7-inch TFT instrument display, some styling tweaks and leather/cloth upholstery.

Tecnica trim is priced from £30,995 and is available with the diesel engines only. It features a cooled glovebox, front and rear USB ports, rear air vents, a driver assistance pack, reversing camera and power adjustable seats.

The Speciale, priced from £34,150, comes with the 180PS diesel only, along with 18-inch alloys, xenon headlights, a split rear bench, aluminium interior details, heated front seats, washer nozzles and steering wheel, red brake calipers, dual chrome exhaust and rear diffuser, along with other styling extras.

The top Quadrifoglio model costs £59,000 and is powered by a 510PS 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine. It features 19-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, sports seats trimmed in Alcantara, sports front bumper, a red start button on the sports steering wheel, active suspension, quad-exit exhaust and advanced emergency braking.
