Vauxhall has cut the price of the Astra to make it more competitive with its arch-rival – the Ford Focus. It has also rationalised its model range so it is less confusing to would-be buyers, with fewer trim levels. There are still plenty of options though, but they offer better value than previously.

Prices rise to just over £23,000 for the top-of-the range Elite Nav model with a diesel engine and an automatic transmission. You can get the top spec Elite for as little as £19,315 on the road, however - a saving of £1960 over the outgoing Astra in Elite trim.
