Renault puts higher-powered diesel into Captur

Published 16 March 2015

Renault has expanded the Captur range by introducing a 110PS 1.5-litre diesel, adding a healthy turn of pace to the crossover while barely affecting emissions or economy. Available from 1 April, Captur versions equipped with the dCi 110 engine are priced from £17,695.

The new engine is a tuned version of the popular dCi 90 unit, and despite the 20PS and 40Nm power and torque hikes, average fuel economy is rated at 76.4mpg in the Dynamique versions - though dips to 72.4mpg in range-topping Signature models.

Oddly, that Dynamique number is 0.1mpg superior to the rating of the dCi 90 engine in Dynamique specification, though emissions are 3g/km higher, up to 98g/km. Basically, the changes are so miniscule as to make no real difference – VED is still Band A.

Only available on mid- and upper level Capturs (Dynamique, Dynamique S an Signature models), the new engine takes the 0-62mph sprint down to 11 seconds flat, from 12.6 seconds with the dCi 90.

It’s not necessarily a cheap addition to the range though, because while a Captur Dynamique Media Nav dCi 90 is priced at £15,195, a Dynamique Energy with 110PS is £17,695 on the road.

All Dynamique specification cars come with Renault’s touchscreen navigation system, 17-inch alloy wheels and climate control, while Dynamique S adds rear parking sensors and aesthetic enhancing two-tone alloy wheels.
