Lexus to launch V8-powered GS F

Lexus is to launch a high performance version of its GS saloon. The GS F gets a normally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine developing 470PS which is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It goes on sale in late 2015 and is expected to cost around £75,000.

Taking on the likes of the BMW M5, the GS F has a hefty 530Nm of torque. While the M5 has more power all round, the GS F is lighter by around 200kg.

No performance details have been given yet, you can expect a 0-62mph time of around than 4.5 seconds. Like the GS450h, there are four different driving modes, ranging from Eco to Sport S plus a special Sport S+ designed for track driving.

Circuit testing has been carried out in Japan and Germany to ensure the GS F has the handling capabilities expected of a performance saloon. It gets stiffer suspension, larger tyres and uprated brakes. It also comes with a torque vectoring differential, which was first seen in the Lexus RC F.

The torque vectoring system has three modes, ranging from standard through to slalom and track, the latter designed to enhance stability on high speed circuits.

To make the GS F stand out from the standard GS, Lexus has given it a spindle grille with a mesh pattern, similar to the one seen on the new Lexus NX. There are front air vents and 19-inch wheels as standard along with a carbon fibre spoiler and chrome exhausts.

Inside there's an electronic instrument display and bespoke front and rear seats with extra side support. There's Alcantara trim on the centre console and dash while a 17-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system comes as standard.
