Porsche announces Boxster and Cayman GTS

Porsche is doubling the size of its GTS range with the launch of the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS. Order books are now open and the hardcore pair will reach the UK in May, with prices starting at £52,879 for the Boxster GTS and £55,397 for the Cayman GTS.

The Boxster and Cayman GTS will share the same six-cylinder 3.4-litre boxer engine, which has been tweaked to produce an addition 15PS over the respective Boxster S and Cayman S.

The improved engine gives the Boxster 330PS and 370Nm of torque and a 0.3 second improvement in acceleration. Indeed, the roadster will now cover the benchmark in 4.7 seconds, while top speed increases to 174 mph.

The Cayman GTS get 340PS and 380Nm of torque, which equates to a 0-62 mph time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 177mph.

However, there's a lot more to the GTS package than just a small power upgrade; both models get Porsche Active Suspension Management and Sport Chrono pack as standard, which allows the driver to tailor damper stiffness, throttle characteristics and handling. Dynamic engine mounts – fitted part of the Sport Chrono package – also improve traction and agility by stiffening the chassis under hard acceleration, cornering or braking.

Power is distributed to the rear-wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, but the PDK seven-speed double-clutch transmission is available as a £2351 option with launch control. Fuel consumption for both cars is a claimed 31mpg, but this can be improved to 34mpg with the PDK ‘box.

There are also a few styling improvements over the Boxster S and Cayman S, with black finish 20-inch diameter  alloy wheels, front spoiler and black finish Bi-Xenon headlights. Inside both models get bolstered sports seats and leather trim.
