Mercedes-Benz reveals Concept GLA 45 AMG

Published 21 November 2013

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the Concept GLA 45 AMG, a high-performance version of the upcoming GLA crossover. While it is billed as a concept it uses the same powertrain system as the A45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG production models, so there’s no reason it couldn’t be put into production following the GLA-Class launch in 2014.

Powered by a 360PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 450Nm of torque, the all-wheel drive GLA 45 AMG can get from 0-62mph in less than five seconds. There’s a sports exhaust with a flap to make it louder, so the soundtrack ought to match the performance. Transmission is a seven-speed dual clutch automatic.

Chances are a production version of the GLA 45 AMG would be toned down – the large roof spoiler, black roof rails and exterior graphics probably wouldn’t make it onto the production model. However the car on display at the LA Motor Show is obviously based on the production GLA-Class – so elements like the side skirts and bumper design could end up on cars seen in Mercedes-Benz showrooms.
