More details of the Honda Civic Type-R are revealed

Published 10 September 2013

Honda has released teaser images of the new Civic Type-R and confirmed that it will have more than 280PS when it goes on sale in 2015.

The new Civic Type-R abandons Honda's long held principle at the best performance cars have high-revving naturally-aspirated engines, and will be powered by a new turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. In truth, it needs to develop around 300PS to be on the pace in today's hot hatch market.

The car will of course be lowered and have numerous changes made to its suspension set-up - and it has been honed by several well-fancied drivers, including Honda WTCC pilot Gabriele Tarquini. Considerable development time will be put in at the Nurburgring Nordschliefe, and Honda aims to make it the fastest production front-wheel drive car there.

It will have its work cut out, as Renaultsport currently holds the record with the Megane 265, but it's quite likely that this will be eclipsed between now and when the Civic Type-R goes on sale.
