Mercedes reveals E-Class hybrid

Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new E-Class BlueTec Hybrid which goes on sale in November. Priced at £39,645 for the saloon and £41,435 for the Estate, the diesel-electric hybrid emits just 109g/km with claimed average economy of 65.7mpg.
It's powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which produces 204PS and 500Nm of torque. This is linked to a 27PS (20kW) electric motor mounted in the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox. Combined they give the E-Class BlueTec Hybrid a 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds in the saloon while the estate takes 0.3 seconds longer.
When fitted with 16-inch wheels, the E300 BlueTEC Hybrid returns a claimed 65.7mpg with the estate slightly less economical at a claimed 62.8 mpg. CO2 emissions are 109g/km for the saloon and 116g/km in the estate.
Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, so you have to choose the optional 16-inch wheels to get the lowest CO2 figures, although they are a no cost extra. It also gets leather upholstery, Becker Map Pilot Navigation and LED daytime running lights.

Economical at £40k? Come on! That's what's not to get! And Co2? What are those batteries made of i wonder...

I've had mine 2 years now (Estate) and I average 42mpg. The CO2 matters more with expensive cars as company car tax is a %......so a small % difference costs big £'s if the list price sis high.It's been really reliable UNTIL YESTERDAY...when I went through a deep puddle and water got inside the passenger side Headlamp Controller (a headlamp used to be 2 bulbs and a spring clip in my day!). All the electrics packed in and it's costing £1500....yes £1500 to get the headlamp replaced!!!
Needless to say I shan't be choosing an E-Class when mine goes back next April!
