Mercedes-Benz reveals new SL65 AMG

Mercedes-Benz has released details of its 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 powered SL65 AMG, which produces an incredible 1000Nm of torque along with 630PS. The SL65 joins the already powerful SL63 AMG at the top of the new SL-Class range. It goes in sale in Autumn and prices are expected to be around £150,000.

A car like the SL65 AMG is designed with performance in mind - and with a 0-62mph sprint time of 4.0 seconds it shouldn’t disappoint even the most demanding drivers. The top speed is limited to 155mph.

However, despite the V12 engine, fuel economy is taken into consideration. A lightweight construction, start stop technology and an eco mode on the 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox help to provide a combined cycle economy figure of 24.4mpg – impressive for such a large engine.

It also comes with four-link front and multi-link rear suspension with active body control and a set up specifically to suit the SL65 AMGs weight and performance, so handling should be as entertaining as any other AMG model.

Externally the SL65 AMG differentiates itself from other SL models by way of a ‘twin blade’ radiator grille, chrome headlight surrounds and more muscular body styling. There's also a host of AMG styling options, including wheels and paint colours.

In the cabin there is nappa leather upholstery, offered in a single colour or as two-tone. AMG emblems are embossed in the backrests of the seats, which feature Airscarf neck-warming, electric adjustment and climate control as standard, amongst other equipment including COMAND infotainment and various safety features like a drowsiness monitor.
