Audi adds 2.0 TDI to A1 engine line-up

The Audi A1 is now available with a 2.0 TDI engine alongside the existing 1.6 TDI. The 143PS 2.0-litre diesel comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and thanks to the low kerbweight of the A1 it's very frugal, averaging a claimed 68.9mpg with CO2 emissons of just 108g/km.

Prices start at £17,945 and with 320Nm of torque the newcomer promises strong in gear performance while the official 0-62mph time is 8.2 seconds. Thanks to its low CO2 level it qualifies for VED band B - currently £20 a year.

Audi has also introduced two new special edition A1 models - the Contrast Edition and the Black Edition. The Black Edition (pictured above) is based on the top S line trim and comes exclusively with the 1.4 TFSI engine with 185PS along with the new 2.0 TDI. Costing an extra £1100 it adds the black styling pack for the grille surround, privacy glass, 18-inch rotor design alloy wheels with a titanium finish and xenon lights with LED running lights. Inside it adds electronic climate control and the Audi Sound System.

The Contrast Edition (below) carries a premium of £1350 over the equivalent A1 Sport model and is available in conjunction with all engines in the A1 range with the exception of the 1.4 TFSI 185PS. It adds a contrasting colour for the roof line and for aerodynamic body styling additions. There are also larger 17-inch ‘five-arm’ design bi-colour alloy wheels while a double-blade roof spoiler, also in a contrasting colour, can be added at extra cost.
