Ford unveils one-off Transit SuperSportVan

Ford has shown off the latest in a line of one-off Transit ‘super vans,’ the first of which was debuted at Brands Hatch in 1971, powered by a 5.0 V8 Ford GT40 engine.

The latest incarnation, call the Transit SuperSportVan, or SSV, is the powered by the biggest diesel engine ever fitted to a short wheelbase Transit.

The 3.2-litre Duratorq TDCi normally powers larger Transit models like the Jumbo. It produces just shy of 200bhp and 470Nm of torque, with a six-speed manual transmission.

Besides the powerful engine and striking paintwork, the SuperSportVan is fundamentally the same as the regular Transit SportVan, with automatic headlights, load area protection kits, rain sensing windscreen wipers and, of course, the sporty styling features like twin exhaust and large alloy wheels. 

The SuperSportVan is on show at the Birmingham NEC for the Commercial Vehicle Show, and is limited to just one, unique model.

SuperSportVan demonstrates just how far you can go with a white Transit van by mixing and matching regular technology in a different way."
