Skoda adds economical 1.6 TDI to Superb range
Skoda is introducing a new 1.6 TDI in the Superb range, replacing the old 1.9 TDI PD engine and lowering fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as a result. Available in both the hatch and Estate, the new common rail 105bhp diesel engine is already used in various Audi, Volkswagen and SEAT models and is far more refined and quieter than the diesel it replaces. With 250Nm of torque it has good pulling power too and 0-62mph takes a respectable 12.5 seconds.
Average fuel economy has been improved by 6.9mpg, going up to 56.5mpg in the hatch while the Superb Estate isn't far behind at 54.3mpg. CO2 emissions are down too, from 149g/km to 130g/km in the hatch which puts it in VED band D, so at current rates annual car tax is £90. The estate emits slightly more at 133g/km, so is one band higher and costs £110 a year to tax.
Prices start at £17,480 for the hatch and £18,640 for the Estate, making it good value for money too. Available in S and SE trim levels, the 1.6 TDI CR comes with a five speed manual gearbox and is available to order at Skoda dealerships now.
