The Honest John Guide to the Paris Motor Show 2010
The 2010 Paris Motor Show (officially the Mondial de l'Automobile) gets under way on 30 September. Below are the star cars from the the show from all the key manufacturers, including mainstream models, concepts and a few oddities.
Audi at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Audi quattro coupe concept
It's been 30 years since the original Audi quattro was first shown and to mark the occasion, Audi has unveiled this - the Audi quattro concept.
It uses the same 2.5-litre turbocharged engine that's in the TTRS, with a whopping 408bhp. This combined with a lightweight aluminium body to turn-in some serious performance figures, powering the quattro from 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds.
Audi A7 Sportback - on sale January 2011
The stylish Audi A7 Sportback will be launched in the UK in January 2011 with a starting price of £43,745 for the entry-level 3.0 TDI model. The four-door 'coupe' as Audi describes it, is actually a practical five-door hatchback, designed to bridge the gap between the A6 and A8.

Audi A1 1.4 TFSI 185bhp - on sale December 2010
Thanks to the use of a supercharger along with the turbocharger already fitted to the TFSI engine, the hottest A1 yet produces an impressive 185bhp giving it a 0-62mph time of 6.9 seconds putting it firmly in hot hatch territory. It gets a seven-speed twin-clutch S tronic gearbox as standard.

Bentley at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Bentley Continental GT - on sale late 2010
Bentley has launched a revised version of its luxurious Continental GT coupe which adds a sharper exterior look along with a contemporary, hand-crafted cabin which promises class-leading refinement. The V12 engine has also been upgraded and a new V8 powerplant will be added in 2011.

BMW at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
BMW X3 - on sale October 2010
With sharper looks influenced by the BMW X5 and BMW X1, the fresh X3 promises to be a considerable improvement on the already very capable current model, with improvements in handling, engine efficiency and cabin quality. It will be diesel only and prices start at £30,490

Chevrolet at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Chevrolet Orlando - on sale early 2011
The compact Orlando MPV from Chevrolet promises to be good value for money. It's a seven seater and should come well equipped as standard plus it's based on the Chevrolet Cruze saloon and uses the same engines including a decent 2.0-litre diesel with 131bhp or 163bhp.

Chevrolet Captiva (revised) - on sale Spring 2011
Despite being a good value SUV, Chevrolet's Captiva hasn't proved especially popular in the UK, so the brand will be hoping the significant changes it's making will make it a more attractive choice. As well as a sharper look and improved cabin there are new engines and gearboxes.

Citroen at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Citroen DS3 Racing - on sale early 2011
Citroen's new performance DS3 Racing will be powered by a specially tuned 1.6-litre THP engine with 207bhp which gives the newcomer a swift 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds putting it firmly in hot hatch territory. However it also has a price tag to match at £23,100.

Citroen C4 - on sale early 2011
The all-new Citroen C4 is a car which the French manufacturer hopes will be good enough to take on the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. It's promising exceptional levels of quality, interior space and comfort, along with responsive handling. You can expect it to cost around £15,000.

Citroen C-ZERO - on sale early 2011
If the C-ZERO looks familiar then that's because it is essentially a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, offering zero fuel consumption, zero CO2 emissions from the tailpipe and zero engine noise. However, the price is expected to be high at around £24,000.

Ferrari at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Ferrari SA Aperta - sold out!
The super-exclusive SA Aperta is based on the Ferrari 599 and is a special series of which a limited number of just 80 will be built and all have already been sold. Ferrari chose to build 80 SA Apertas in celebration of Pininfarina's 80th anniversary and it promises to be an instant classic.

Ford at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Ford Mondeo (revised) - on sale October 2010
Among the changes to the revised Mondeo are subtle exterior styling tweaks including LED daytime running lights, an upgraded interior and more efficient petrol EcoBoost and TDCi diesel engines. There is also a revised 2.2 TDCi engine on offer which boasts an impressive 200bhp. It's due here in October and prices are expected to remain the same.

Ford C-MAX and Grand C-MAX - on sale November 2010
The new Ford C-MAX will come in two versions, the standard C-MAX model (pictured) and the newly added Grand C-MAX which offers seven seats and more interior space along with a unique look from the rear. The key feature though is side sliding doors making it ideal for families.

Honda at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Honda Jazz Hybrid - on sale early 2011
Honda is set to launch a hybrid version of its popular Jazz, bringing lower emissions and improved fuel economy. It will be the first hybrid small hatchback and features the same engine as the Insight hybrid - a 1.3-litre i-VTEC combined with an electric motor and a CVT gearbox.

Hyundai at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Hyundai ix20 - on sale December 2010
The ix20 is Hyundai's latest model, a small MPV that is actually based on the Kia Venga. It promises to be easy to drive but will make the most of its space with a practical cabin. Engines will include a 1.6-petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel with prices expected to start at £12,000.

Infiniti at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Infiniti M - on sale October 2010
Infiniti's M saloon, a luxury rival to the likes of the BMW 5 Series, goes on sale soon as the M37 - a 3.7-litre V6 powered model with 320bhp but what's likely to be more popular is the diesel M30d which is set to arrive in the UK in October 2010. Prices for the M37 start at £35,150.

Jaguar at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Jaguar C-X75 - Concept Car
The C-X75 is a 330km/h (205mph) four-wheel drive supercar that's capable of running in purely electric mode for 110km (68 miles) on a six-hour domestic plug-in charge. The innovative, lightweight micro gas-turbines are also capable of very quickly and efficiently recharging the Lithium-ion batteries, giving the car a theoretical range of 900km (560 miles). Is it an XJ220 for the 21 Century?

Kia at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Kia Magentis - on sale March 2011
The Magentis - one of the oldest models in the Kia line-up - is set to be replaced by this striking-looking model early next year. The new Magentis is longer, lower and wider than before and promises to be far better to drive, while the engine line-up will include a new frugal diesel.

Land Rover at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Land Rover Evoque - on sale 2011
This will be Land Rover's undoubted star of the show. The three-door Evoque (previously known as LRX) promises sharp looks and sub-130 g/km emissions, which would make it £90/year to tax if it was on sale today. Best of all, prices are expect to start at £30,000.

Land Rover Freelander 2 (revised) - on sale early 2011
Land Rover has given its popular Freelander 2 off-roader some key updates for 2011 including a new 2.2-litre diesel engine with either 150bhp or 190bhp, a fresh exterior plus - for the first time - a two-wheel drive model which will be capable of averaging 47.2mpg.

Lexus at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Lexus CT200h - on sale early 2011
Lexus is promising its new CT200h hybrid will not only be efficient and economical, but will also offer sharp and sporty handling, when it goes on sale in the UK in early 2011. It will be the first small car from Lexus and promises plenty of innovative touches as well as low CO2 levels.

Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale - on sale 2014
Maserati will give a debut to its most powerful and fastest model yet - the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. Inspired by the Trofeo GranTurismo MC and the race-winning GT4 motorsport models it delivers 444bhp from its upgraded 4.7-litre engine and will cost more thsn £100,000.

Mazda at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Mazda5 - on sale October 2010
Mazda has revealed details of its all-new Mazda 5, the latest version of its popular people carrier. As before, the MPV has seven seats and children-friendly sliding side doors - ideal for narrow supermarket carparks - while there are improvements to the interior.

Mazda2 (revised) - on sale early 2011
The upgraded Mazda2 gets tweaked engines (now Euro V compliant) and a revised chassis for even better ride comfort. A new automatic gearbox is also set to be introduced, something which was previously unavailable on the Mazda2.

Mercedes-Benz at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG - on sale October 2011
The updated high performance CL63 AMG gets a new 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine with 571bhp and 900Nm of torque which is combined with a new Speedshift seven-speed sports transmission, helping to improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions. But it's priced at an eye-watering £108,185.

Mercedes-Benz CLS - on sale January 2011
The all new CLS gets a four-cylinder diesel with 204bhp which will offer high economy and lower CO2 emissions. This will sit alongside a range of powerful engines including a 261bhp 3.5-litre V6 diesel, plus V6 and V8 petrols with 302bhp and 435bhp. Expect prices from £48,000.

Already one of the most popular and capable all-round 4x4s, the Nissan X-Trail has been improved with a sharper look, a higher quality interior and improved gear change ratios for a better compromise between acceleration and fuel economy. Prices should remain unchanged.

Nissan Leaf - on sale March 2011
The Leaf is Nissan's all-electric car and although the Japanese brand appreciates it's not for everyone due to its 100-mile range between charges, it still looks to be the most practical electric vehicle coming and costs the same as the Mitsubishi i-MiEV at £23,990.

Peugeot at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Peugeot 508 - on sale early 2011
Replacing the rather ungainly Peugeot 407, the much sleeker Peugeot 508 looks a far more stylish proposition. The big news is that Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology will be available, providing 200bhp performance with all-wheel drive and CO2 emissions of 99g/km or zero in electric mode.

Peugeot iOn - on sale early 2011
The electrically-powered Peugeot iOn is one of a trio of what is essentially the same car alongside the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Citroen C-ZERO. Like the others it runs purely on electric power with a range of around 80 miles but it's also expensive with prices expected at £24,000.

Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 - on sale Spring 2011
Powered by a 2.0 litre 163bhp HDi diesel engine and a 37bhp electric motor, the Peugeot 3008 with HYbrid4 technology, is set to be the first diesel full hybrid production car in the world. Thanks to the efficient system it can potentially average 74.4mpg with CO2 of just 99g/km..

SEAT Alhambra - on sale November 2010
It's been a long wait - the original Alhambra goes all the way back to 1996 - but finally a new model is on the way. It's the sister car to theVolkswagen Sharan and comes with the same sliding side doors (very useful in tight parking spaces) and frugal TSI and TDI engines.

All new Skoda Greenline models - on sale early 2011
Skoda will launch Greenline versions of the popular Yeti and the Superb Estate, both of which use the same 1.6 TDI engine that can be found in Greenline versions of the Octavia. Meanwhile, a new 1.2 TDI engine in the Fabia sees CO2 emissions cut to just 89g/km.

Toyota Verso-S - on sale early 2011
Toyota is promising that its new mini MPV - named the Verso-S - will offer a flexible and practical interior in a compact package when it goes on sale in 2011. It will rival the likes of the Nissan Note and you can expect frugal petrol engines and the usual excellent Toyota quality.

Vauxhall at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer - on sale Oct 2010
The new Astra Sports Tourer promises to be more practical and better equipped than the outgoing Astra Estate, but starting prices are lower with the 1.4i 16v VVT 100bhp ES model costing £16,575 - around £500 less than the existing entry-level variant.

The sister car to the forthcoming SEAT Alhambra, the new Sharan comes with seven-seats like its predecessor, but is a big leap forward in refinement and flexibility. It is also more spacious inside than before while the popular 2.0 TDI engine can average 52.3mpg.

Volkswagen Touareg - on sale October 2010
There are some big changes for the second generation Touareg, not least the introduction of a Hybrid model which combines a 3.0-litre supercharged petrol engine with an electric motor and delivers 380bhp. But it's the 3.0 TDI V6 which is expect to be the most popular choice.

Volkswagen Caddy - on sale November 2010
With a sharper look, similiar to the design seen on the new Volkswagen Polo and the forthcoming Volkswagen Sharan, the new Caddy range promises to be cheaper to run than the existing models thanks to more efficient engines, plus there are improvements in quality.

Volkswagen Jetta - on sale early 2011
The Jetta isn't as popular as the Golf in the UK where we prefer hatchbacks to small saloons, but it's a big seller in the U.S. The new model is bigger than before with better passenger space and a larger boot. It will also be efficient thanks to Bluemotion technology.

Volvo at the 2010 Paris Motor Show
Volvo V60 - on sale October 2010
Following on from the recently launched Volvo S60 saloon, the V60 has been designed to combine estate-car practicality with with coupe design and driving characteristics. Safety is always a key strength on Volvos and the V60 will come with the clever City Safety system as standard.
