Geneva Motor Show 2017: All-new Audi RS 5 gets V6 power

Audi has downsized for the latest generation RS 5, with a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 replacing the 4.2-litre V8 engine from the previous model. Orders open in May, following the cars's debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Prices are expected to start at more than £65,000.

The engine might be smaller, but performance is better than before. Peak power is 450PS and peak torque is 600Nm and performance is strong – 0-62mph takes just 3.9 seconds, with top speed limited to 155mph. If you like extra top speed, Audi will lift the limiter to 174mph.

Economy is 32.5mpg and CO2 emissions are 197g/km, as if that kind of stuff matters when you’re buying a high-performance coupe.

The suspension has been reworked to improve agility over the standard A5 and S5 and, as is the standard for Audi RS models, power is sent to all four wheels via quattro all-wheel drive.

There are plenty of brushed metal exterior details and beefy bits on the bodywork to let everyone know you’re in a proper, fast Audi, while inside there are lots of red bits and RS 5 badges, so you and your passengers know too.

Plenty of the usual Audi technologies appear, including Virtual Cockpit, Drive Mode Select and MMI infotainment and comprehensive smartphone connectivity.
