Q2 is Audi's small SUV

Audi has pulled the wraps off its smallest SUV yet: the Q2.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2016, the Q2 is shorter, wider and taller than the A3 Sportback and aims to compete with the likes of the Nissan Qashqai and Ford Kuga - but with a more upmarket fit-and-finish inside. Prices are yet to be announced, but are expected to start from around £21,000, with the first deliveries starting later in 2016.

It's the first model to show off Audi's new design cues such as a new single-frame grille and rectangular headlights.

The Audi Q2 comes with a choice of six engines: three petrols and three diesels. The petrol range includes a 1.0-litre TFSI with 114bhp (said to return 50mpg combined), a 1.4-litre TFSI with cylinder-on-demand technology and a 187bhp 2.0-litre TFSI that produces.

Diesels comes in the are made up of a 1.6-litre TDI that returns an official 70mpg (Real MPG suggests this engine will in fact return much less), and two 2.0-litre TDIs in 148bhp and 187bhp forms.

Q2 also gets a a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, with S tronic automatic available as an option. That is unless you buy the range-topping 2.0-litre petrol or diesel, as these engines get S tronic transmission as standard.

Inside, it's packed with many of the kind of upmarket features you'd expect from Audi's larger SUVs and saloons. The firm's 'virtual cockpit' - which uses two screens that can be customised to display things such as satellite navigation or media - is offered and the MMI infotainment system can sync with smartphones. On the safety front there's traffic jam assist, collision assist (which can automatically apply the brakes), active lane departure and active cruise control.

There’s 405 litres of boot space, with 1050 litres on offer when the rear seats are folded. A 40:20:40 folding rear bench adds to practicality and headroom is said to be much better than that of the A3 Sportback.
