Geneva Motor Show 2015: New Vauxhall Corsa VXR gets 205PS

Published 03 March 2015

Vauxhall has premiered the new Corsa VXR at the Geneva Motor Show. The new model shares its 205PS 1.6-litre turbo engine with the previous VXR, which gives a 0-62mph sprint time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 143mph.

Prices are to be confirmed, but expect to pay less than £20,000.

The engine has been tweaked, however, meaning peak torque is available from lower revs. Economy is 37.7mpg and emissions are 174g/km.

The new car sits 10mm lower than the outgoing model and rides on new Koni dampers, which are designed to offer a blend of comfortable low-speed ride and flat cornering at higher speeds. Vauxhall has also revised the steering to make it more direct.

Standard equipment includes Recaro seats, sports pedals and VXR logos, as well as a heated windscreen and a touchscreen system with Intellilink for connecting smartphones. Six paint choices are offered.

Real driving enthusiasts can specify a Performance Package which adds a Drexler limited-slip differential, larger brake discs, firmer suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels.
