Geneva Motor Show 2013: Volkswagen introduces Golf GTD

Volkswagen will introduce the Golf GTD at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The performance oriented diesel Golf has a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 184PS and 380Nm of torque. That means a 0-62mph sprint time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 142mph, but with a frugal combined cycle economy figure of 67.3mpg. Emissions are 109g/km.

A six-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard, and there’s an optional six-speed DSG automatic, which is slightly less efficient. To set the GTD apart from more mundane Golf models there are smoked LED rear light clusters, dual chrome tailpipes, 17-inch alloy wheels, sporty side skirts, a spoiler, lower suspension and a rear diffuser.

Golf GTD Cabin

The cabin gets GTI style tartain sports seats, along with a sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and GTD specific details on the gear lever, dials and trim strips. Standard gear includes climate control, front and rear parking sensors and ‘winter pack’ of heated seats, heater washer nozzles and low washer fluid warning.

Both three- and five-door versions of the Golf GTD will be available. The German price is confirmed at €29,350, or around £25,500. UK pricing is yet to be fully formalised, but order books open in April ahead of first deliveries in the Summer.
