Frankfurt Motor Show 2017: Suzuki announces details of Swift Sport

Published 12 September 2017

Suzuki’s new Swift Sport has been premiered at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Powered by a 1.4-litre BoosterJet petrol engine, the new car has 140PS – like the outgoing Swift Sport – but with a lower kerb weight and 70Nm more torque, at 230Nm. Prices will start at around £15,000 when sales start in mid-2018.

Performance figures are to be confirmed, but we expect 0-62mph to take around eight seconds – so it’s not going to be quite as ‘hot’ as some of its rivals – but it should be good value for money and, if its predecessors are anything to go by, it’ll be huge fun to drive too.

Setting the Sport model apart from the standard Swift are more aggressive front and rear bumpers, along with twin tailpipes and a spoiler. Inside there are red details and more supportive seats, but that’s about all that differentiates the Sport from lesser models.

On the plus side, equipment is generous with a touchscreen fitted as standard. This supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus there are lots of safety features including auto emergency brakes, lane keep assistance and adaptive cruise.

Shame about the silly rear door handles still ruining the looks, or the absence of a 3 door model, but everything else is bang on (assuming they don't get greedy with the price). I can't wait to try one - it's in pole position to be my next car.

out of curiosity, what could possibly upset you about the car having 5 doors as opposed to 3? nowadays extra doors don't impede on anything about the car except practicality positively

.....in your opinion. We have our boring, practical family car that already fulfils that purpose.

Regarding practicality, my kids won't like the way the 'design flourish' door handles eat into the visibility from the rear door windows so maybe a 3 door version would not only look better (looks are important to me, and others, on a hot hatch), but also have better visibility for rear seat passengers thus keeping the seats clean from child vomit :-)
