Facelifted Audi A8 revealed

Published 10 September 2013

Audi has premiered the facelifted version of its flagship luxury saloon, the A8, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The updated A8 gets lightly tweaked styling, but more importantly there are improvements in fuel economy and power outputs across the engine range. Deliveries are expected to start in early 2014 and prices should be more or less unchanged, starting from about £54,000.

Fuel economy savings are owed in part to the addition of cylinder-on-demand technology, which is now available on top W12 models. There have also been tweaks to other engines to improve efficiency and power out. Power gains are around 10 per cent in the case of the 3.0 TDI and 4.2 TDI engines.

Other tweaks and changes include optional all-LED headlights which can detect oncoming traffic and automatically dim, preventing glare where it matters and offering full illumination everywhere else. There’s also active lane keep assist and an updated night vision assist that can detect animals like deer and people.
