DVLA launches online duplicate log book service

This week, DVLA has launched an online service to make it quicker and easier for drivers to get a duplicate log book (V5C) in just five days.

The new service is expected to help around half a million motorists a year who would have had to use the paper route to order a duplicate previously, which can take up to six weeks. It costs £25 for a duplicate log book whether you go online or apply by post.

The update is part of the DVLA’s ongoing service improvement programme and follows the change address on vehicle log book service - which was launched in June.

In Septmeber, the DVLA also announced that drivers whose photocard licence or entitlement to drive expires between 1 February and 31 December 2020 have been extended for 11 months from the date of expiry under temporary changes. So, for example, if your licence expires on 1 September 2020, it won't need renewed until 1 August 2021.

Julie Lennard, DVLA Chief Executive, said: "DVLA’s new online service to apply for a duplicate log book is quick and easy to use and means customers who have unfortunately either lost or damaged theirs will receive their new document within a matter of days."
