Citroen C4 hdr automatic - unable to select gear on automatic - dorex

I have problems with my car after stopping it and getting out when I get back in the engine will start however no gears can be selected if I leave for about 10 minutes or so when I try it again I can select the gears alright the car has been back to the main dealer however they say that they can not find any fault this has been happening for about 9months on and off the car is only 13months old any one any ideas? I am really fed up with the car and wish I had never seen it

It sounds from your description as though the fault could be demonstrated to a mechanic.

Bear in mind, they've supposedly tried the car and not found the fault, so you need a foolproof way and technique of showing it.

On and off though suggests the problem is intermittant. Can you provoke it? Until the dealer observes the fault you'll be struggling.

You need to drive it to the dealer and get them to try it straight away before it cools down.

How does he get it to the dealer when the fault appears and it won't go in gear...;)

if you own one of these things go onto youtube and look on there just put in make and automatic problem , i bought a renault modus yes i know but did not researcg it first now i know how to work on it and how to do everything i need i got a tablet with screen cord on it and i built up a data base of how to videos ,yours sounds like the gear lock is not releasing when you say you cant select the gear or if the shifter is not locked its going to be a sensor there is no excuse for a main dealer not being able to diagnose it those scanners cover everything

Its probably a known problem but the dealer does not want to cough up the time and parts look on the youtube !
