2010 Peugeot 407 SW Diesel - Slow Crank?? - fredthefifth

No not the poster although those that know me might think so!!

Car is approaching 3 years old and with the cold weather the crank is quite slow to the point that I am thinking about replacing the battery, but they last longer than that don't they? Which makes me think it could be charging system (though lights are fine) or starter motor, both of which are under warrantee.

Any thoughts please?

Is it a sealed battery or one you can check levels and add water if needed?

Are terminals clean?

Maybe give it a charge and see if it cures it.

Cold weather and short runs are bad for a battery.

Connect a voltmeter across the battery, should read around 14.4 volts with the engine running, much less and you have an alternator fault. Check the battery connections and the lead from the battery negative to earth. Could be a faulty starter but the battery is more likely.

Hi All, sorry for the delay responding, have been away from the Broadband for a few days. Lovely!!

Battery is sealed no maintenance. Connections are ok. Will check the volatge at the weekend.

I agree its most likely the battery.

Thanks for the replies.
