Kia Sportage 2.0 CRDI 2006 - Sensation through clutch pedal - Snakey

Hi all,

I've noticed my new (to me) Kia Sportage 2.0 diesel has a sort of 'biting' or vibration sensation through the clutch pedal as you pass through the bite point. Its not severe and the clutch operation is fine (no slipping, juddering and no rattling noises at idle etc) but I've never noticed it on any other cars. Its literally only at one point of the pedal stroke - roughly just before the biting point.

Is it just the vibration from the diesel engine transmitting through the pedal? I'm aware of the all the DMF scare stories but at idle there is no rattle (apart from the diesel rattle!) and the clutch operates as I'd expect. I've had diesels in the past but I've been in petrol cars for the last 5 years.

It could be the thrust bearing or possibly the DMF, if you gently take your foot off the throttle when driving and allow the car to 'overrun', between the overrun and take up points you may feel vibration if the DMF is worn.

I've never noticed vibration at that point but I'll have an experiment!

I can feel the engine vibration through the clutch pedal if I rest my foot on it at idle, but my previous diesels were like that as well.

Its quite normal to get some vibration but if its the DMF you may be able to feel a different one between overrun and take up.

I tried this on my commute and I can't feel a noticeable difference in vibration before the bite, it feels the same at speed as it does at idle. Its only on the actual biting point the sensation is noticeable.

I guess I'll have to wait until it develops into something more noticeable!
