Renault Clio I Petrol - Timing belt replacement - barossaboy

Hi there, I have a Renault Clio with 48K on the clock and 6 years old. Manual says the timing belt should be changed at 72K or 5 years. Should I bother as in time it's due but not in mileage ?
Not really wanting to spend out now if I can help it!!
Many thanks.

If you re-read the manual, you'll probably find it says : the timing belt should be changed at 72K or 5 years, whichever comes first!

Buy a new belt now or possibly a new engine later, are you feeling lucky.

My niece owns a Renault Megane Scenic. She was waiting for the 72K miles to get the timing belt changed, even thought the car was 9 years old!

At 69K miles the belt snapped. Bill to repair engine afterwards? £1400 !!!
