Ford Mondeo - cost of renewing a dual mass flywheel - hughsey72

i am having probs with my ford mondeo and have been told that the dual mass flywheel/clutch needs replacing. Garage has quoted me £600. Is this a fair price? I have a Mondeo 04 plate 1.9 DTI. Also another garage told me to just leave it as it is but not sure if this is safe?

1.9DTI? 04 Mondeos only came with a 2.0TDCI. :)

I was quoted around £700 for clutch and flywheel on my Mk3 Mondeo. That's from 3 or 4 different garages locally. It's a big job as the engine and subframe need to come out, so there's 8 hours of labour in there. Some garages wouldn't entertain doing it at all.

Thankfully my flywheel was OK, so just doing the clutch and slave cylinder (source of the problem, it leaked and contaminated the clutch) only cost £360.

What problems are you having, specifically?

As someone who might have similar problems, perhaps you can help. My problem is difficulty getting the car in 2nd gear when cold cheers
