My spanner light comes on and stays on after about half a mile. I have depressed the brake and accellerator pedals to the floor and turned the ignition ket to get the code 6342 (the engine light flashes six times, then three, four and two). What does this mean. All the codes i find in the net begin with 0, 1 or 2.

I have read a few posts in forums saying that this code thing doesn't work in diesel.

BUT, I had the same code. I also had other symptoms. Intermittent check engine light. And sometimes even a cloud of smoke out the exhaust. I left it into an Opel garage and had them check it out. They eventually diagnosed it as a problem with the Glow plugs.

I had them changed and now I no longer have code and no service light or smoke....

Another thing to note is that I have had this issue for a couple of months now and had my car serviced in Opel in December. At the time I had the same intermittent check engine light. When I had them hook up the computer there was no results. Normally when there is a fault to trigger the check engine light it is remembered. But in this case the light was off when I went in and nothing was recorded.

I may update this in a week or two as I just got the car back today and thought I better post my findings before I forget about it.

When I had 6342 on the bliking led, the dianostic tool said P0683-04 Glow Plug Circuit Open. When I cleared the fault, 6342 also disappeared, but just for a while. Now that the defective glow plug is changed, both le led, the blinking code and P0683-04 are completely gone.

had the same on mine too, same car, loss of power, very lumpy revs and smoke, thought it might be glow plugs but they just for starting car so changed fuel filter in engine bay and all was fine 10 minute job, remove air filter box gives plenty of room, hope this helps
