They remove the engine and strip and replace the pistons and rings, when my 2007 model was done in May they also replaced the EGR and two brake callipers, all FOC.

I retired in Sept. and doing less miles, so traded in the diesel and brought a V6 auto very pleased with it.

Mine didn't go into limp mode, just lost power at low revs.

You're welcome clingy, have you had it done yet?

They had mine in for a full ten days and loaned me a 250 sport with 70 miles on the clock, liked that auto box so much I brought one.

Hi again clingy

Glad everything is ok, when mine was in, the service manager said they were doing this modification to prevent it happening again in the future, so hopefully you should have no more problems.

Goodness, that's proper customer service. Pretty much every other manufacturer would have washed their hands of the problem.

Sounds like they've revised the piston design to better control either diesel getting into the sump, or oil getting past the rings and being burned. They'll probably fit a new DPF too.

I was shocked to read "there's loads of problems with this engine". Here's me thinking it's a Japanese engine so must be reliable.

Does there even exist a reliable diesel anymore?

Toyota after sales service tends to be v.good. In 1992 I had a 1985 Corolla GT and the water pump went at 72,000 miles. If it had Toyota fsh, even though it was 7 years old, the Toyota garage told me Toyota would have stumped up the cost of the part and I'd have just had to pay for labour. That's how to look after customers. I went on to have two more Corollas!

Lots. You don't hear of them here for obvious reasons..50% of new registartions are diesle.. How many cars do you see at the side of the road?

have same problem on car with similiar amount of miles and brought in to nearby dealer and told me it is a wear and tear issue and as such it was not covered under my warranty. They have quoted me a figure of €1000 to get this cleaned. Ridiculoulsy if the part needed to be replaced as opposed to cleaned they said it would be covered. Any advice here would be appreciated
