VW Mk 1V Golf TDI - Sudden Power loss - jonjon1

My golf will suddenly lose power after driving for around an hour at motorway speed. It seems as though the turbo cuts out as I can't get above 60 mph. If I stop the car for a moment then restart everything is normal. It's just happened 3 times during a 200 mile journey.

My local garage wired it up to their computor but no fault was recorded so they are uable to cure the problem. Is it worth while taking the car to a VW specialist and will they have more sophisticated equipment to diagnose the fault?

Anyt replies would be greatly appreciated.

MOST LIKELY A PART INSIDE THE TURBO IS STICKING, TO REPAIR THE TURBO WILL NEED REMOVING AND CLEANING

Many thanks Peter. I think I'l get the garage to do that first.

Hi. I had the same or similar problem with my VW Passat on motorway - pretty scary with my child in the back. The RAC guy found no fault codes except turbo issue or ecu (but not sure if old codes). He rest the ecu and rescanned twice. No fault codes. I drove fine afterwards. The car just had a full service, etc. am taking back to garage to get ecu and turbo checked. Someone else mentioned fuel pump/filter issue. I will update you after garage visit. Good luck.

I think the the management system is defaulting to 'limp home mode' which I suppose is a bit like a computor going into safety mode and having to reboot. I will get the turbo stripped down and cleaned and will update you. Thanks for the replies.
