Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 Petrol 2000 - Belt came off and water pipe burst - HELP! - csj1976

Hi, I could use some help and advise. I recently paid to have a replacement engine installed in my Grand Voyager. The next day I drove approx 30miles. As I was parking I suddenly lost power steering and steam started coming out of the bonnet. When I opened it up there was a burst water pipe which was spewing out very hot water and coolant. Also the belt was hanging off.

I am not mechanically minded but was told that this type of engine does not have a timing belt. Instead this belt is used to run things like power steering, water pump, air conditioning, alternator etc.

Is it possible that with the belt coming off, pressure built up because the water pump wasn't working and this would have caused the rubber water pipe to burst? If not what can you tell me?

I am seriously out of pocket to the tune of £1280 so far on repairs and breakdown recovery and my mechanic is staying tight lipped until they have a further look.

Moved to Technical. There's another thread started recently about this same model: one to sell I'd say, also bearing in mind its poor NCAP rating.
